Sochi 2014: Russia men fail to make ice hockey semis

Russia player Anton Belov

Russia have been dumped out of the Olympic men's ice hockey tournament following a 3-1 defeat by Finland at the quarter-finals stage.

The home side took an eighth-minute lead through Ilya Kovalchuk.

But the Finns hit back with goals from Juhamatti Aaltonen, Teemu Selanne and Mikael Granlund to set up a semi-final against Nordic rivals Sweden.

Earlier, the Swedes defeated Slovenia 5-0, with favourites Canada set to play Latvia later on Wednesday.

USA could face their fellow North Americans in the last four if they beat Czech Republic in the other quarter-final.
