On-loan Norwich City defender Joseph Yobo has disclosed that he would like to be a part of the Nigeria squad to the 2014 Fifa World Cup.
Yobo has fallen out of the Eagles since his criticism of Stephen Keshi for leaving him out of the squad that faced Kenya in a World Cup qualifying game in 2013.
The 33-year-old was impressive on his debut for Chris Hughton’s men in their 0-0 draw with Manchester City at Carrow Road on Saturday.
Speaking during his first press conference as a Norwich City player, the most capped Super Eagles player of all time believes his move to the Canaries will brighten his chances to represent Nigeria again.
“It’s been a while since I was involved with Nigeria. I haven’t played for the Super Eagles since we became the champions of Africa,” said Joseph Yobo.
“I have spoken to Keshi and I think we are on equal basis now so I just have to perform well for Norwich City now and get my place back in the national team.
The former Fenerbahce player last played for the Super Eagles when he came on as a late minute substitute in Nigeria’s win over Burkina Faso in the 2013 African Nations Cup final.
“I have been in the national team for so long. Captaining the national team gives me a special feeling and going to the World Cup for me will be an addition.
“I am here now and my priority now is Norwich City. Hopefully if I do well here, the national team will just be an addition. It will be a pleasure,” he concluded.
